Late Afternoon Apples

Painting No. 25|10″ x 8″|Oil on Canvas
Here we are at number 25. Hard to believe I am 25% of the way through this but that also means there is a long, long way to go. I’ve been trying to really ramp up the number of new paintings to get a jump on what’s to come because the last couple of weeks have been slow.

So, with number 25 we are back to apples. This is a 10″ x 8″ original oil done on stretched canvas.

With these apples I was playing with the angle/perspective a little more than normal (looking down on them) and also really trying to work the light. You can say a lot with the color of the light, the angle. If done right it will telegraph the time of day, what it’s like outside etc… Sounds easier than it is really is.

I also painted this from life and the brown background is actually one of my T-Shirts. That is one part improvising and one part avoiding going to JoAnn’s. I’m pretty confident in my manhood but avoid that place like the plague.

That’s it for now. The others are progressing nicely and I feel good about Thursday’s actually being able to go live at a decent hour…
