Seeing Things For The First Time

Painting No. 14|8″ x 8″|Oil on Canvas
Alright, got some rest and have been back at it. Getting another cold this weekend did not help but at least we got number 14 in the books. I also have 15 about 60% done and should be posting that early this coming week.

I painted this “from life” instead of shooting it and looking at a computer screen. What a difference that makes. I probably spent as much time just sitting there and looking at it as I did painting the canvas.

You think you know what something looks like. An apple, a vase, a piece of cloth. But when you sit down and really look at it your brain just explodes. There are hundreds of colors, angles, lights, transitions. It’s endless. So you take it all in and then have it edit most of it out.

This is what makes someone like Carol Marine so stinking good. An incredible ability to see what’s there combined with a perfect eye for what to leave out. One day…

This is an 8″ x 8″ original oil painting done on a stretched canvas. If you would like to purchase this painting you can but it at my Etsy Store.
